The trip starts in Chengdu, travels to Heishui County on the first day, then begins a very early summit attempt toward Mount Aotaina from the San’ao Snow Mountain Base Camp on the second day.

The route includes a long-distance transfer, basic local accommodation, high-altitude hiking, snow mountain scenery, and a demanding summit push. Day 1

Travel from Chengdu to Heishui and prepare for the next day’s summit attempt

Meet in Chengdu at Exit B of Tianhe Road Metro Station between 11:30 AM and 12:30 PM, then depart together for Heishui County. The drive is about 310 km and takes around 5 hours.

After arrival, check in at the local accommodation in Heishui. Dinner is included, while lunch is at the traveler’s own expense. The evening is mainly for rest, preparation, equipment checking, and getting ready for the early-morning summit hike.

Day 2

Start before dawn for the Mount Aotaina summit attempt and return to Chengdu after the hike

📍 Heishui County, San’ao Snow Mountain Base Camp, Mount Aotaina, Chengdu

Wake up around 2:00 AM and depart around 2:30 AM for San’ao Snow Mountain Base Camp. The transfer takes about 50 minutes. The hike usually begins around 4:00 AM.

The full hiking route is about 9–10 km and may take around 10 hours. For safety reasons, travelers who have not reached the summit by around 10:00 AM must turn back. After descending, return to the hotel around 2:00–3:00 PM to change clothes, then take the vehicle back to Chengdu.

Arrival in Chengdu is expected around 8:00–9:00 PM, but delays may occur due to weather, road conditions, hiking pace, or other special circumstances.

  1. Round-trip transportation
    Transportation from Chengdu to the San’ao Visitor Center and back is included, along with transfer service between the local accommodation and the visitor center.
  2. Accommodation
    One night of accommodation is included in Heishui County, arranged according to the itinerary standard.
  3. Meals
    The package includes dinner on Day 1 and breakfast on Day 2. Other meals are not included.
  4. Mountain support arrangement
    The guide and support service is arranged through fixed-position staff, mobile team support, and rescue-team patrols. It is not operated in a traditional “one guide to several guests” guiding format.
  5. Basic hiking equipment
    The package includes use of a headlamp, crampons, and trekking poles.
  6. Outdoor activity organization
    Outdoor activity planning and organization service is included.
  7. Insurance
    Outdoor high-altitude accident insurance is included during the activity period.

  1. Personal expenses
    Any personal spending during the trip is not included.
  2. Meals not listed as included
    Lunch on Day 1, trail meals, and other meals outside the listed inclusions are at the traveler’s own expense.
  3. Summit certificate
    If travelers want a personal summit certificate, it costs CNY 200 per certificate.
  4. Personal hiking equipment
    The PDF lists many personal items that travelers need to prepare themselves, such as backpack, sleeping bag, waterproof hiking shoes, warm clothing, gloves, sunglasses, sunscreen, power bank, personal snacks, and personal toiletries.

What to expect

Travelers should expect a physically demanding high-altitude outdoor activity rather than a casual sightseeing tour. The second day starts extremely early, with wake-up around 2:00 AM and departure around 2:30 AM. The hike may begin around 4:00 AM and take about 10 hours round trip.

The route involves cold temperatures, strong day-night temperature differences, snow mountain terrain, limited or no mobile signal in many areas, and possible altitude discomfort. Weather conditions can change quickly, and the schedule may be delayed. The expected return to Chengdu is around 8:00–9:00 PM, but travelers should not arrange tight same-day return transportation.

This trip is suitable for travelers with good physical fitness, outdoor experience, safety awareness, and team spirit. It is not suitable for guests with serious medical conditions, mobility issues, pregnancy, or those who are not comfortable with high-altitude hiking.

Temperature reminder
Morning and evening temperatures differ greatly. Warm and windproof clothing is essential.


Altitude reminder
Mild altitude reaction is common in highland areas. Possible symptoms include headache, chest tightness, shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting, and insomnia. Guests should rest well, avoid alcohol and smoking, drink water, and avoid intense movement before acclimatizing.


Health restrictions
Travelers with infectious diseases, cardiovascular disease, cerebrovascular disease, respiratory disease, mental illness, severe anemia, recovery after major surgery, mobility problems, pregnancy, or other conditions unsuitable for high-altitude outdoor activity should not join.

Personal equipment recommendation
Suggested personal gear includes ID/passport, 40–60L large backpack, 20L daypack, warm sleeping bag, waterproof jacket and pants, moisture-wicking base layers, quick-dry pants, waterproof mid/high-cut hiking shoes, fleece jacket, down jacket, warm socks, gaiters, waterproof gloves, phone, power bank, knee pads, thermos, scarf or buff, sunglasses, sun hat, raincoat, sunscreen, lip balm, toiletries, personal trail meals, and tableware.

Signal notice
Most mountain sections have no mobile phone signal.


Environmental responsibility
Participants should not litter. Used batteries and non-degradable waste must be carried out.

Participants must follow the leader’s instructions, avoid leaving the group, avoid risky independent actions, respect local customs, and cooperate with the team.
